EPA Utility Data Center EE Program Guide Webinar Thursday

Our bi-monthly webinar providing an overview of the EPA's "Understanding and Designing Energy Efficiency Programs For Data Centers" is this Thursday at 1 pm EST.

As I mentioned on the AESP webinar two weeks ago, this is a chance to get a rather more extended overview of the guide given that we have an hour instead of just twenty minutes.

Speaking At...EUCI Data Centers and Utilities, Philadelphia, July 23 and 24

I'll be reprising my presentations at the EUCI Data Centers and Utilities conference in Philadelphia in late July, though happily we've condensed the four presentations I gave at their last conference into two slots at the beginning of each day.

I've posted three of the four slide decks from EUCI's last conference, but will of course be updating all of my materials based on recent market trends and some new topic areas. (I do my best to track the questions at conferences to inform presentation updates, as well as feedback that I get from program evaluations.)

GSMI Green Data Center Conference Presentation Deck

I took a quick trip to the outskirts of Dallas last week to deliver one of two keynote addresses at the GSMI Green Data Center Conference, focusing my remarks on the intersections of the data center and utility industries.

My remarks covered not only the utility and energy factors inherent in making a siting decison for a new data center, but why energy issues will be increasingly important for IT managers even for existing operations.

The concluding theme was that the IT industry and utilities have more to do with each other than ever, and that there are opportunities to partner on energy efficiency and perhaps load management and self generation. And for the big players, a need for them to help guide and influence energy policy and regulations, given the importance of the grid in supporting their business vision.

ASs I noted in an earlier post, it was gratifying to get insightful questions about energy policy in the final few minutes of my time slot, as well as good one-on-one discussions afterwards!

Speaking At...GDCON in Dallas in June

Okay, so this time I'm giving plenty of notice! I'm the opening speaker on the second day of the Green Data Center Conference, sponsored by GSMI in Dallas June 5th and 6th. Here's the program agenda.

I haven't prepared my presentation yet, but I now note that the second speaker of the day is KC Mares of Megawatt Consulting. That looks like a turnabout opportunity for the EUCI conference last year, where half of my presentation was made redundant by KC's presentation! Seriously, we'll sync up beforehand to weed out duplicate material.

Speaking At: SMUD IT and Data Center Energy Efficiency Class 4/9/13

Almost embarassed to post this, as the course is currently fully booked, but I am once again joining Mark Hydeman of Taylor Engineering to present a course on IT and data center energy efficiency at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District next week.

It's gratifying to reach our fourth or fifth sold out course at SMUD; if you check their educational offerings page you can send in an email to get on a waiting list.

Great DCIM Conference in Washington DC

I'm headed to the capitol to emcee and moderate a forum focused on how data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools can help operators identify and capture unused capacity, with featured speakers from Eaton, Future Facilities, and RF Code.

We'll also have a representative from Dominion Virginia Power on hand to talk about utility energy efficiency programs and incentives.

In Ohio? Duke Energy Data Center EE Class July 31

I know it's a big state, but if you are in Ohio consider coming to Cincinatti on Tuesday July 31st to attend a full-day data center and IT energy effiency training program sponsored by Duke Power.

My colleague Geoff Overland of Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corp and I will deliver a soup-to-nuts view of energy efficiency opportunities.  Despite having a full day, we won't be able to do much of a deep dive into any one area, but we will give a solid overview of the opportunities that data center facility and IT managers should be contemplating.

Speaking At: ConEd Energy Efficiency Summit 2012

Well, not speaking so much as moderating a panel discussion...

ConEd has a great program planned for their 2012 Energy Efficiency Forum on May 1 in midtown, and I'll be on hand to moderate an afternoon session on deploying data center energy efficiency easures to capture capacity.

We have a crowded panel, with both vendors and end-users, so will likely fill up our forty-five minutes, but I will encourage our panelists to be available after the session to answer questions.

Really looking forward to supporting this event, and if you have facilities in New York City, you should think about attending!

Speaking At: Electric League of PacNorthWest Data Center EE Summit

I'm looking forward to a full-day training session in Bellevue WA on April 11th, where the Electric League of the Pacific Northwest is hosting a Data Center Energy Efficiency Summit.

The bulk of the day will be spent describing energy efficiency opportunities in data centers, though as always I'll provide an industry review at the beginning, and close the day with a call to action for the data center operators who attend.

Thanks also to four local utilities in the area, who are marketing the program to their customers. We also expect to make time for three or four customer case studies during the day, which always brings the training material to life.

I've always been impressed with the commitment to energy efficiency in the Pacific Northwest, evidenced by truly superior utility programs, and am excited to be a part of a renewed focus on the data center market there.

Moderating: Panel at Technology Convergence Conference

I'll be moderating a panel again this year at the Teladata Technology Convergence Conference on Thursday February 2nd at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Our topic this year is Server Rooms and Closets: The New Frontier for Energy Efficiency Engagements, and I'll be joined by two close colleagues, Mary Medieros McEnroe from Silicon Valley Power and Bill Dunckel from Pacific Gas and Electric, and a new acquaintance, Dr. Munther Salim, who works on energy efficiency and sustainability at HP.

If you haven't attended the Teladata events in the past, I highly recommend going given the focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, as well as the caliber of the presentations.
