My colleague Henry Coles at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and I are moving our report on the energy efficiency attributes of modular and container data centers forward, and I expect we'll be publishing sometime in November.
Wanted to thank the many product vendors who have supported our work over the past month.
For myself, I want special thanks to go out to Lee Technologies, SGI, and HP. I've spent a lot of time talking with Lee, spent a great three hours at SGI, and will be seeing HP's latest offerings at an event tomorrow afternoon in San Francisco.
The conclusions of Henry's technical analysis and our joint survey of product offerings indicates that the new "second generation" modular data centers coming to market, featuring on-board air side economizers (often supplemented with direct evaporative cooling), offer fantastic energy efficiency performance. Further, they obviate the need for chiller plant infrastructure, lowering installation costs and perhaps speeding up deployment.
Watch for a publication date announcement here...
